Whilst for most international teams, a 22 year old five-eighth would be considered unlikely or at best a bolter for such a major tournament, Theo Fages is not like most other 22 year olds.
After making the move from his hometown of Perpignan at just 16 to break into the English system with the Salford Academy, it took only two seasons for Fages to crack into the Red Devil’s first grade squad and start to showcase his brilliance at the top level.
Making such an impressive start to his first grade career, Fages was rushed into the French team for the 2013 World Cup, debuting against Papua New Guinea off the bench before starting against New Zealand.
Since then Fages has amassed almost 100 first grade game in Super League and over 130 points, cementing himself as one of the halves to watch in the Northern Hemisphere’s premier competition. He has also gone on to collect seven caps for the les Chanticleers, and captained his country in the 2015 European Championship.
Son of former International and Albi five-eighth / centre, Pascal Fages, Theo has shown his in four-year career thus far, that he has inherited the speed and footwork skills long associated with his father, whilst also bringing the type of creativity to the football field that has been missing from French teams in more recent years.
A true competitor and a player who is just growing more and more into his role for both the Saints and the French national team, keep an eye out for Fages this World Cup.
