The results were a welcome turnaround from the previous two years when NRL clubs have won all six World Club Series match and not only breathed life into the concept but raised hopes for England’s World Cup campaign at the end of the season.
"What is clear is that competitive international club rugby can showcase the very best in our sport to the world.
“The skill, passion and quality on show over the last two days have demonstrated that rugby league at its best is difficult to beat.”
Wales coach John Kear said the win would also boost confidence within his team and the Scotland camp ahead of the World Cup.
“What a great weekend for Super League. Wigan have taken it to the NRL champions and beaten them fairly and squarely. What a great afternoon for British rugby league.” Kear told BBC Radio.
The Wigan side, which led 10-0 at halftime and 16-0 until midway through the second half against the Sharks, featured 11 English players, one each from Wales, France and Australia and three New Zealanders.
Significantly, many of the stars for Warrington were also English, with Kevin Brown, Joe Westerman, Daryl Clark, Declan Patton, Andre Savelio and Ryan Atkins playing leading roles.
"The players have showed unbelievable character against the best in Australia,” Wigan coach Shaun Wane told Sky Sports after fulltime at DW Stadium on Sunday.
"Credit where credit's due, Warrington have done a great job and we've done okay today. It shows that we've got something to be proud of in Super League."
